Thousands of people buy some flowers for their loved ones every day – both on red-letter days or particular dates, and just to do something pleasant to the people they love. This simple element of our everyday life still represents one of the oldest traditions in the history of mankind. Flowers have kept the first place throughout our history. Proofs of their usefulness can be found in different folk tales, myths, and religious texts. Some kinds of flowers were applied as food and continue to be applied as food until present time; others are known for healing properties and are used in medicine. They were used by Romans and Greeks a number of centuries ago since people at that time considered that the fragrance of flowers purifies the atmosphere and minimize intoxication. Even notorious conquerors famous for their ruthlessness and severity while being at war kept exotic gardens at home. Owing to the high valuation of flowers by people they became symbols of different nations. In such a way, a rose represents the national emblem of Iran, Honduras and England. Italy in its turn is represented by a lily, Russia by a sunflower, Brazil by a Cattleya, Japan by a chrysanthemum etc. The most significant function that flowers have, however, is their power to arouse profound human thoughts and emotions the way no other object can. These plants somehow embody tenderness and beauty. They are able to cheer up or to inspire on high-minded actions. A small bouquet in the center of a table is a symbol of comfort. That is why women, and especially housewives, try to include fresh flowers in their budget. But flowers are symbolic not only in this way. Every flower has its own meaning, and this way it can assist in expressing people's feelings perfectly. Flowers have been applied for years to send various messages. For example, the red carnation used to mean “my heart aches for you”. The recipient in her turn could send a moss rose back (which means “I confess my love”) or a dried up white rose that in flower language would mean “you leave me cold”. At present the most widespread way to say about the feeling is sending a decorated floral composition of three long-stemmed red roses to the woman you like.
