Being an electrician is like being an inspector; it’s all about putting the pieces together and coming up with a logic way out of a problem. It gets more fun due to the fact that you have had no formal appropriate training about going about these issues. In this kind of a thing, stuff simply workout through trial and error method. And while we do this, we all hope that the wire you are about to touch is not live, and if it is, not the magnitude that would send you to the next world. And when you get that unexpected jolt, you curse and hope that in the next world there won’t be electricity. It’s funny how we still test whether a wire is live or not by touching it to see whether you will ‘die’. And you are doing this stepping on top of a stool placed on shaky table. It’s getting late and you have to fix that bulb in the study room because you have a couple of essays to review, written by your students. You try to fix one new bulb without switching off power at the mains and the bulb blows with that faint sound in your hands and you are about to give up. But then, you remember you still have to prepare a custom essay to act as a guide to your students early the next morning and keep on trying. You step down and have to walk all the way to the town to buy a new bulb hoping that it won’t get you in the same scuffle. The other day I had to repair the socket at the living room. The whole process was filled with tension. When I unscrewed the case using a kitchen knife, I accidentally made the live wire and the neutral wire come in to contact and this led to a series of unforeseen events. There was deafening sound followed by a large fireball that was to die out after a few seconds. The lights blinked in the apartment then went off. I was to later discover that I caused a power breakdown throughout the whole block. This is the time you find it fit to bring in a real electrician to clean after your mess. He has more work than he would have done in the first instance I thought of calling him in. He has to restore the power throughout the block, and then fix the soot-covered socket at my apartment, all of which I have to cater for. rushessays.net |
