With the growing significant of the Internet in our modern world, the question about the security of data sent through the World Wide Web is becoming more and more essential. The protection of connections is the most significant condition for organizing e-payment transfer, interactive bank operations and other online transactions that require certain level of security. You have probably already heard about the SSL certificate. SSL protocol is a standard and it is used by millions of websites for guaranteeing the security of user's transactions. The technology of SSL is supported by all principal browsers and operating systems. For the creation of a protected connection using SSL protocol between browser and web server you'll need digital SSL certificate that identifies separate users and servers. The security of the connection channel is guaranteed by means of two elements. The first issue is authentication. It implies that SSL certificate is connected with a certain domain and it cannot be used by different domains. The second element is encryption. The information is transformed in a way that it may be decrypted only with the use of special key. SSL certificate allows to review the following information: domain name of the SSL certificate, legal body that is the holder of the SSL certificate, physical location (city and country), validity of the certificate, information about the supplier of SSL certificate. What is more, the certificate includes information about the secret key. SSL certificate proves the belonging of the domain to the existing company and the rights of its holder to apply the secret key on a legitimate basis. While installing the connection between web browser of the user and server the domain name, center of certification and validity of the certificate are checked. This procedure is uninterrupted and it isn't visible for the user. In this way, the application of SSL certificate guarantees authenticity, confidentiality and integrity of the sent information.
