A combination of punk and hard-core tendencies are the basis of the EMO subculture. The term "emocore" originates from emotional hardcore and is thought to have appeared the middle of the 1980s. Founders of this music style added melodic elements to their tunes. Sorrow, affection, sense of guilt are common topics of their tunes. Hence, the emo style could be defined as rock with emotional lyric elements. However, the definition of the emo style is still open to debate. Even though the emo subculture was originally considered a music genre, now it is referred not only to music, but also to behaviour, fashion, hair style and the way of life. The emo style is known as unfashionable. This way emo adherents show that they are uninterested in all aspects of society. Emos consider themselves outcasts and, so, demonstrate their neglect of existing social rules and regulations through the emo subculture. Tight jeans and t-shirts, with printed names of popular emo groups, skate sneakers, brightly coloured stockings, a wide diversity of body accessories, badges, bracelets create the image of an EMOtional youngster. The emo fashion is also recognised for its hairstyles. Popular looks include long side-swept bangs, commonly covering one or both eyes. Straightened and coloured black hair is also a part of the emo trend. Hair is commonly highlighted blue, pink, red, or blond. At the beginning of the 2000s, the emo fashion was associated with an immaculate look, but when young people adhered to the style, it became darker, with long bangs and emphasis on the colour black supplanting sweater vests. Emos are very sensitive characters. Specialists define them as introverts who do not want to interact with the world around. Instead, they display their standpoints by means of poetry. Poems they write are full of sorrow, nostalgia and despair. Usually these emotions are characteristic of teenagers aged 12 - 18, when they are emotionally and psychologically unstable. Coupled by family problems, the emoism becomes a way of life for many emo representatives.
